Collection: Spectrolite
Spectrolite is an exceptionally rare, premium variety of labradorite belonging to the plagioclase feldspar mineral group. It is uniquely distinguished by its vibrant, full- spectrum iridescence—known as labradorescence—which flashes brilliant shades of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Unlike standard labradorite, which features more muted, blending tones against a lighter matrix, true Spectrolite displays sharply demarcated, intense colors over a strikingly dark, opaque gray or black base. Geologically, this optical phenomenon is caused by light diffracting through tightly packed, micro-lamellae internal layers within the crystal. Geographically, the authentic gemstone is exclusively sourced from Ylämaa, Finland, where it was first discovered during World War II. Structurally, it features a triclinic crystal system, a Mohs hardness scale score of 6 to 6.5, and two directions of perfect cleavage, making it highly coveted but delicate for custom lapidary cabochons and artisan jewelry.
