Collection: Kings Manasa
The King's Manassa turquoise mine, originally staked as the Lick Skillet Mine, is located near Manassa in south-central Colorado and is widely considered the oldest recorded turquoise deposit in the state. Originally exploited by ancestral Puebloan peoples for centuries, the site was "rediscovered" in 1890 by gold prospector Israel Pervoise King, whose descendants operated the claim for generations. Revered for centuries in Native American jewelry making, the mine yields a highly collectible, distinct variety of stone characterized by vibrant emerald greens and deep sky-blues tightly locked in a rich, golden-brown rhyolite matrix. Because operations have slowed significantly, authentic Manassa turquoise remains a rare, highly valued commodity on the modern gemstone market.
