Collection: Bamboo Mountain

The Bamboo Mountain turquoise mine, traditionally referred to as the Zhuxi mine, was a notable, privately owned operation located in the Hubei Province of China. Situated near the internationally acclaimed Yungai (Cloud Mountain) deposit, the mine permanently closed its commercial operations in 1995. "Zhuxi" translates to "a mountain where plenty of bamboo grows," which perfectly mirrors the distinctive aesthetic of the gemstones found there. The mine is highly celebrated for producing exceptionally unique, vibrant green, mint, and spring-green turquoise. These stones are often characterized by rustic beige, tan, and brown tones webbed with a striking black matrix that resembles a stained-glass pattern. While beautiful sky-blue material has also been uncovered at the site, the predominantly green hues and intricate spiderweb patterns make remaining old-stock Bamboo Mountain turquoise highly prized by modern lapidaries and collectors.
