Collection: Seraphinite

Seraphinite is an exceptionally rare, gem-quality variety of clinochlore, a hydrous magnesium iron aluminum silicate mineral belonging to the chlorite group. Mined almost exclusively from the remote Korshunovskoye iron skarn deposit in the Lake Baikal region of Siberia, Russia, it is highly prized for its captivating dark forest-green to gray- green body color. What makes this stone distinct is its remarkable chatoyancy, caused by fine, aligned fibrous structures within the crystal that reflect light to produce shimmering, silvery-white plumes. These patterns closely resemble delicate bird feathers, which inspired the stone's trade name, paying homage to the seraphim—the highest order of winged angels in biblical tradition. Because it is a relatively soft mineral with a Mohs hardness of just 2 to 4, seraphinite is delicate and easily scratched, making it much better suited for protective collector carvings, display items, or low-impact jewelry like pendants, earrings, and cabochons.
