Collection: Calcites
Calcite is a highly abundant carbonate mineral and the principal constituent of sedimentary rocks like limestone and metamorphic rocks like marble. Chemically classified as calcium carbonate. Calcite occurs in an incredible variety of crystal habits and colors, ranging from clear and white to vibrant shades of orange, green, and blue depending on trace chemical impurities. One of its most remarkable physical properties is double refraction (birefringence); when a person looks through a clear, optical-grade variety known as Iceland spar, any text or image behind the crystal appears completely doubled. With lots of forms, many are used for jewelry making.
