Belonging to the calcite mineral group, it often features prominent brown or black matrix veining that gives it a striking resemblance to rare green varieties of turquoise. First discovered in 1966 on the Gaspé Peninsula of Quebec, Canada—from which it takes its name—it has transitioned over the decades from a discarded mining byproduct into a highly collectible gemstone used extensively in Southwestern-style jewelry. While originally found in Canada, the primary commercial deposits of gem-grade gaspeite rough are sourced from Western Australia, secondary geological deposits have also been documented near Greece, South Africa, and the Cerrillos/Hillsboro mining districts of New Mexico, USA.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0767/9492/1014/collections/TEMP-COLLECTION-IMAGE-V001_662c3903-0e5a-4527-bdfa-d076ebfa92dc.jpg?v=1790959726
